Everybody leaves

Whether by choice, character or circumstances

They always leave

And their foot print they leave as a souvenir

Something to remind you of what used to be

A gap in the space they used to fill

Try as hard as you might to protect yourself

Never letting any one in

Walls up to the sky

Gates locked and secured

Few creep in through the cracks

During moments of weakness and loneliness

So you brace yourself for the impact of when they’ll leave

Reminding yourself nothing last forever

But knowing they’ll leave does nothing to lessen the pain of departure

The ones that hurts most are the ones you didn’t see leaving

That just rips your inside to shreds
